Workshop

Presenting Your Research

Convincing talks are one of the most important success factors in an academic career. For researchers at every career stage, the workshop combines an online half-day on core principles with an individual, in-person feedback day – bookable as one of three packages (Compact, Standard, Cohort), depending on group size.

A talk is often the only moment an audience meets your research directly – and the impression it leaves outlasts the slides. Whether at conferences, in colloquia, or in teaching, presenting with clear structure and confidence is what earns visibility and impact.

In this hands-on workshop, participants develop their own short presentation step by step. A varied format of input, practice phases, and structured feedback creates a protected space where both technical and personal presentation skills are strengthened. For the special case of preparing to defend a PhD thesis, there's a dedicated format.

The training combines online and in-person phases to enable lasting learning. After a compact online half-day introducing the core principles of academic presenting, participants prepare their own presentation and then receive detailed, in-person feedback on content, structure, and delivery.

The in-person part is organized in groups of 4 participants per half-day, so that everyone gets enough room for their own presentation and individual feedback. That results in three bookable packages:

  • Compact – 8 participants, 1 in-person day
  • Standard – 12 participants, 1.5 in-person days
  • Cohort – 16 participants, 2 in-person days

Content:

  • Why talks matter for an academic career
  • Defining communication goals and tailoring messages to your audience
  • Slide design for clarity and impact
  • Giving and receiving feedback
  • Strategies for confidence and persuasiveness
  • Developing and delivering your own short presentation
  • Reflection and transfer into your own practice

Nach dem Workshop können die Teilnehmenden …

  • Work out the core messages of your own presentation
  • Design slides that are visually clear and effective
  • Present with confidence and composure in front of an audience
  • Give constructive feedback and use feedback you receive to improve your own presentation
  • Carry what you've learned into your own presentation practice
